Steve Clegg was born and raised in Chilliwack BC but has traveled to a few places around the world before settling back in Chilliwack to start Clegg Woodcrafts. Steve earned a business diploma from BCIT and has a degree in Environmental Studies in progress through the University of the Fraser Valley, both of which help to steer Clegg Woodcrafts in a positive direction. Steve has also worked at various environmental firms and non-profits where he has helped to protect species-at-risk, map streams wetlands and waterways, as well as preform small habitat restoration projects. Through his woodwork, Steve is able to continue his environmental passion by using salvaged and reclaimed materials in all his projects.

Marla Pitcher was born in Fredericton Newbrunswick, yet has continually moved west province-by-province but has finally come to rest here in Chilliwack, BC. Marla works for a small non-profit organization where she helps individuals with developmental disabilities. Outside of her 9-5 job, Marla makes up the second half of Clegg Woodcrafts which is a natural extension of her environmental values. Marla is excited about making small differences, one product at a time, by providing high quality, handmade items to the local market instead of cheap over-packaged, non-recyclable items.

We are both very proud to announce the arrival of our first daughter, Arli Clegg. Born in November 2010, she is already quite a handful but we are enjoying all of her early learning and exploring.

As all of our products are made from local wood, this means that local trees are being taken out of the ecosystem when we use them in our business. To compensate, Clegg Woodcrafts has already personally grown over 250 native and ornamental trees and begun planting them back into our local area.

So far we have grown and planted the following species: Western Broadleaf Maple, Vine Maple, Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Alder, Cottonwood, Willow, Mountain Ash, Oak, and Walnut.
